Summer Reading!

I have had a few e-mails about summer reading. I have attached the link to the 6th, 7th & 8th grade summer reading book list. Each student is responsible for reading one book and be able to participate in a book discussion at the beginning of the school year. Therefore, you may want to wait until late July to have your student read the book so it is still fresh in their memory.

Last Week of School!

summer This last week of school is a bit of a whirlwind.

Today we are finishing our last essay as part of the study by UK. The students have worked hard and are finishing in class today.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, we are going to the Louisville Zoo!

Wednesday we will continue to work on our argumentative writing piece about cloning. Students are writing about whether it is ethical or not to clone animals, people, etc.

Thursday we will finish working on our writing piece.

Friday is the last day. It is also 8th grade promotion. I know several students will be with their older siblings in the gym watching the promotion activities. We will have some end of the year activities going on in classrooms. Reminder: Students can purchase lunch from Mrs. Murray (she is ordering pizza) and get a slice of pizza, pop, and chips for $3.

I have really enjoyed teaching your students this school year! If you have not heard yet, I am moving up to 7th grade next year so I will probably have some of the students again! 🙂

Have a wonderful summer!

Wednesday, May 8, 2013 – Tuesday, May 14, 2013

We are testing all morning long on these days. Due to this our schedule will be different. On most days I see the students for 30 minute classes, however there are a few times when I do not see some classes due to extra long testing. There will be no homework during testing for my classes! In class we are continuing to review using flocabulary.

Today we had another fun day reviewing content from the school year by playing Jeopardy. It was a lot of fun and the kids did a great job!

Tomorrow we begin our KPREP testing. We discussed going to bed early tonight and making sure to eat some breakfast in the morning. This year mechanical pencils are not allowed on the test so if you have any extra wooden #2 pencils it is a good idea for students to bring those just in case.

No homework!

We are so close to KPREP testing time! We spent today having some fun and reviewing for KPREP. I went over the testing guidelines with the students in 1st hour so that they would be prepared. All classes then played some review Jeopardy. It was fun and the kids got really competitive playing!

No homework!

Today we reviewed some On-Demand Writing ORQ questions. We looked at a narrative and an argumentative essay and looked at sample responses for 1’s, 2’s, 3’s, and 4’s. This seemed to be enlightening to the students and they realized how important it is to look at the rubric so that they made sure that they were answering every part of the question.

Homework: Edmodo quiz over organizational patterns. I also gave out paper copies if needed.
